COMPREHENSIVE DRIVING Evaluation

The Comprehensive Driving Evaluation assesses whether individuals with impairments possess the necessary physical, cognitive, visual, and sensory abilities essential for driving safely.

It is suitable for determining the driving eligibility of individuals experiencing functional decline, as well as those in recovery from a medical event, to ensure their readiness to resume driving.

The evaluation starts with a clinical assessment which includes an interview, various tests and collateral information, to get a full understanding of the individual’s abilities. This is followed by an on-road assessment, during which the individual drives a pre-planned route, with gradual exposure to increasing levels of traffic and environmental stimuli, to assess their driving competence in real traffic.

The evaluation results indicate whether the individual:

• Can continue driving.
• Requires further intervention, such as rehabilitation, advanced driver training and/or vehicle modifications, before resuming driving.
• Should discontinue driving, in which case alternative transportation options are explored.
